There are ups and downs to using paper. Paper is biodegradable. If properly disposed of, it dissolves back into the earth and does not pollute the environment. It can also be recycled to make other products. Most paper bags are made of recycled paper. But in order to make paper, trees have to be cut down. Just toilet paper alone is responsible for thousands of trees being cut down daily. This made the invention of bamboo paper a very welcome development. The bamboo paper offers all the benefits of tree-made paper but more friendly to the environment.
Bamboo paper is eco-friendly for many reasons. The first reason is that it is sustainable.
Bamboo grows fast and easy. You cut off a stem and it grows back in a couple of months. Certain species can grow over half a meter each day. It can grow in environments where other plants could not. Bamboo grows even in depleted soil. In fact, it can improve soil conditions by returning nutrients into it and provide protection against erosion.
The second reason is biodegradability. Bamboo degrades quickly and is easier to dispose of. This means that it will not crowd or overburden landfills. It will not hang about and pollute the environment.
The last reason is cleaner manufacturing. The bamboo paper uses virgin fibers. Virgin fibers don't require extensive bleaching or dying. Much less chemical inks and dyes are used. This helps minimize the number of chemicals that get inadvertently released to the environment.
